Example 1.
Step 0. Preparation
Get a sound file with the following command on my Ubuntu 10 Linux;
youtube-dl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crCqWK3SmRo
ffmpeg -i inputfile.mp4 -ab 192k outputfile.mp3
Step 1
Step 2
20min: listened 3 or 4 times at normal speed.
hand writing memo(ugly)
Note
- Not in usual 4 bar pattern. It is part of the taste of this song.
- Verse: 4 + 2 bar pattern
- Chorus: (4 + 2) + (4 + 1) bars = total 11 bars
or 6 + 5 bars
or 4 + 4 + 3 bars
(Various interpretations are possible)
- Chord progression: E should be Em
(5 to 10 minutes to verify the chord)
(not important for drummer)
Song structure (usually I just use the ugly memo)
- (0:30) Intro: 6 bars
- (0:45) Verse: 4 + 2 = 6 bars
- (0:59) Verse: 4 + 2 = 6 bars
- (1:12) Chorus: 6 + 5 = 11 bars(fill at the last bar)
- (1:36) Interlude 4 bars (break in 4th bar)
- (1:44) Verse 4 + 2 (basically repeat of the above part)
- (omitted) Verse 4 + 2
- (2:11) Chorus: 6 + 5
- (2:35) Interlude: 4 bars
- (2:45) Verse: 2(break) + 2 + 4 (oh...) (break in the last bar)
- (3:01) Chorus: 6 + 5 bars (break in 1,2 bars)
- (3:24) Outro(Ending Chorus): 4 + 4 bars + 1(first note)
Step 3 (60min, 20131214)
PDF(hand written on a thick paper
for music sheet (12 staves/page))
Some notes
- For me, hand writing is much quicker. Computer printout is OK but
thick paper is better.
You better write your own beautiful sheets on a PC:-)
- The notation style is of Yamaha Popular Music School textbook.
- Step 4 (fill-ins) are omitted. It is easy to recognize note values.
- Step 5 is not applied because this song
is short and the result of Step 3 is already easy to read and play.
- I usually add part of the lyrics and chords, but they are omitted
to avoid copyright issues.
